PASTURE FED at The Story Farms – Herons Green and Court

Herons Green Farm joined the PFLA because it fits with every thing we are doing, it is great for animal welfare, human health, the environment and many other benefits. We are also part of the HLS – Higher Level Stewardship on our farm so we are well suited with rich herb leys and many varieties of grass. We believe that the future of meat consumption relies heavily on the public changing the way in which we look upon how our animals are reared and what they eat.

Pasture containing grasses, wildflowers and herbs is the natural diet of cattle and sheep. Yet today, very few animals are fed on pasture alone. Many farmers now try to produce their meat as quickly as possible, by feeding things like cereals and imported soya, and keeping them indoors for some, or all of the time. So animals are vanishing from our fields and the tasty, healthy, grass-fed food they produce is hard to find.
The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association brings together British farmers committed to producing high quality food in a more natural way.

I am looking forward to the future as i know the benefits far outweigh the alternative methods of animal rearing and food production. It is our job to try and not make it too confusing for the public, i keep hearing the phrase “ eat less meat” every where i go lately and it is easy to understand why. However i always counter phrase it with “we should eat better meat”, which is just as easy to take on board but it does prompt the question “ what does better mean”? It means eat pasture fed organic meat and taste the difference.
